The PADI Rescue Diver course is equally challenging and rewarding. During the course you will learn to look beyond your own diving, and to consider the safety of other divers around you. This course will push you beyond your comfort zone, and as a consequence you will feel more confident in both your own diving skills, and your ability to recognise when other divers may need assistance and to offer that help when required. Divers often refer to this course as the most challenging, yet most rewarding course they’ve taken… So why don’t you give it a go?

How much will it cost and what do I need to bring?

Students need to bring their swimming gear and your own mask and snorkel. In addition we recommend bringing appropriate clothing to wear in-between dives, such as a coat and hat/gloves in colder weather, or a hat and sunglasses in warmer weather.

* In order to complete your PADI Rescue Diver qualification you must also hold the PADI Emergency First Responder certificate (or equivalent from another organization). Please see our ‘EFR’ section for more information.

Pre-requisites

  • 12 years of age or over
  • PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or Junior Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent certification from another organization)
  • Be certified medically fit to dive by completing the PADI Medical questionnaire, including sign-off from your GP if required
  • Have completed the home study as detailed in the PADI learning materials

What can I expect?

The PADI Rescue Diver course includes an element of home study, so you must read the manual and complete the Knowledge Review exercises before attending the first day of the course. You will spend part of the first day with your Instructor, reviewing your home study exercises. You will discuss your answers with the rest of the class, and there is the opportunity to seek clarification on anything you are unclear on. You will take a final written exam. You will then spend the rest of the day at the swimming pool, learning the skills necessary to recognise, prevent and deal with various rescue scenarios. The second day of the PADI Rescue Diver course involves you putting your new skills into practice in an open water environment. You will be assessed on your rescue skills in various scenarios which your Instructor will stage.
